Sol Garfunkel

Sol Garfunkel is a mathematician who has dedicated his career to mathematics education. Since 1980, he has served as the executive director of COMAP, an award-winning non-profit organization that works with teachers, students, and business people to create learning environments where mathematics is used to investigate and model real issues in our world.

Ang Keng Cheng is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Mathematics Education, and the Associate Dean for Higher Degrees at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Our Approach

We believe IMMC is not just a competition — it’s a launchpad for innovators, leaders, and future problem solvers. Our approach emphasizes access, mentorship, and deep thinking.
 
1. Accessible to All

  • Open to all high schools across Saudi Arabia

  • Free registration for all students

  • Online participation supported
     

2. Training & Orientation

  • Free webinars on mathematical modeling techniques

  • Sample problems from past years

  • Guidance on structuring a strong report
     

3. Mentorship & Support

  • Office hours with mentors for shortlisted teams

  • Writing and presentation coaching

  • Feedback from national judges
     

4. Global Readiness

  • Selected teams receive intensive pre-international mentoring

  • Review by past global winners and experts

  • Final submission reviewed to meet international standards
     

5. Who Can Participate?

  • Students in Grades 9–12 enrolled in Saudi high schools

  • Teams of 4 students from the same school

  • Each team must have an adult advisor (a teacher or mentor)
